Venture Capital: Capital articles by a Silicon Valley Insider

Marc Andreessen knows a lot about what happens inside Silicon Valley - he’s been part of that scene for a long time.

He’s written a remarkable series on venture capital. I was amazed to learn that there is more VC money around now than ever.

In part 1, Marc covers:

  • His experience with venture capital.
  • How VCs work.
  • The advantages and disadvantages of venture capital.
  • Why VCs select and discard opportunities.

In part 2, he discusses:

  • Comparing venture firms, and comparing partners within firms.
  • The VC’s ideal investment.
  • How much help, and what kinds of help, you can expect from your VC.
  • How VC’s spend an awful lot of their time, and why you should feel sorry for them.
  • VCs: soulless and rapacious capitalists, or surprisingly generous philanthropists? Or both?
  • Why we should be thankful that we live in a world in which VCs exist, even if they yell at us during board meetings, assuming they’ll fund our companies at all.
  • And, how to make a VC’s head explode.

In part 3, he covers:

  • The history and growth of VC firms.
  • Why there is more VC money now than ever.

Well worth the read.
