Are you a webscab? raises an interesting issue for self-publishing writers - what is the best possible way to self promote?
By Howard Hendrix’ definition, anyone who gives a book away is a webscab. A friend of mine, Steve Collins, publishes the ACME Guide - for free - so he and Howard might need to talk. My money is on Steve (apart from being a ColdFusion coding guru extraordinaire and a heck of a nice guy, he is also a certified Tae Kwan Do instructor)
Anyhow… how do you self-promote?
- Seth Godin tells us we should write an ebook.
- Lulu.com has a lot of self-marketing ideas for their users
- Read Astrid Cooper’s advice
- Blog about yourself, your work, your topic
Comparing Seth Godin (write that ebook! Give it away!) with Howard Hendrix (don’t join SFWA if you are going to do THAT sort of thing) I’d have to look at the one qualification for measuring the success of a writer - number of successful sales. Can you guess who wins? ![]()
